JEE Main Exam Guidelines

Overview

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is a national-level engineering entrance exam conducted twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning courses in NITs, IIITs, and other top engineering colleges, and serves as the qualifier for JEE Advanced.


About the exam

Conducting Body: National Testing Agency (NTA)

Frequency: Twice a year (Session 1 in January, Session 2 in April)

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) except for the drawing part of B.Arch

Papers:

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech),

Paper 2A (B.Arch),

Paper 2B (B.Planning)

Marking Scheme: +4 marks for correct answers, -1 mark for incorrect MCQs

Tentative Timelines (2027 Cycle)

Session 1 Application: October – November 2026

Session 1 Exam: January 2027

Session 2 Application: February 2027

Session 2 Exam: April 2027

Application Elgibility

Qualifying Exam: Passed class 12 or equivalent exam with Physics, Mathematics, and chemistry/biology/technical vocational subject.

Age Limit: No age limit for appearing in JEE Main.

Attempts: Candidates can appear for 3 consecutive years from the year of passing class 12

Registration Process

Visit the official website and open the new registration link.

  • Fill out basic personal and contact details to get login credentials.

  • Log in, fill out the application form, and choose exam cities.

  • Upload scanned photograph and signature in correct dimensions.

  • Pay the application fee online via net banking, UPI, or credit/debit ca

Guidelines

  • Keep your registered mobile number and email active for NTA OTPs and updates.

  • Download the Advance City Intimation Slip and Admit Card ahead of time from the official portal.

  • Carry a valid photo ID proof and a printed admit card to the examination center.
